Mandatory Professional Accreditation for Engineers: How New Requirements Starting August 2025 Will Impact Oman’s Construction Industry
Muscat: The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has announced that, effective August 1, 2025, all engineers in the Sultanate of Oman—both current employees and future hires—will be required to obtain a professional accreditation certificate from the Oman Society of Engineers (OSE) to receive or renew their work permits.
The MoL stated that the issuance or renewal of work permits for engineers will be contingent upon presenting a valid professional classification certificate issued by the Sector Skills Unit (SSU) specifically for engineering.
Engineers must apply to the OSE to obtain the necessary certificate before seeking any work-related permits from the ministry. The ministry emphasized that no work permits will be granted to engineers after the stated date without this certification.
This new regulation aims to enhance the professional competence of engineering practitioners in Oman, thereby reinforcing quality standards and supporting national workforce development objectives.
