Temporary Work Permits for Expats During Khareef: Implications for Your Business Growth in Oman
The Ministry of Labor in the Dhofar Governorate has announced that employers will be permitted to obtain temporary work permits for hiring expatriate workers during the khareef season. This initiative aims to regulate the labor market and assist employers in meeting the heightened demand for services throughout the khareef period.
The move also seeks to mitigate violations related to the employment of illegal expatriate workers and to support the temporary activities organized by Dhofar Municipality during this season.

Statistics further indicated an 8.3% rise in visitors from Asian countries during the khareef season, totaling 86,678, up from 78,401 in 2023. Among these visitors, 794,596 arrived via land borders in 2024, compared to 722,795 the previous year. Meanwhile, 253,155 travelers entered Dhofar by air, an increase from 239,401 in 2023.
