Unlocking Innovation: How Intellectual Property Rights Can Boost Your Business in Oman
Muscat, July 12 – The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion has emphasized that intellectual property is a fundamental pillar for achieving economic و scientific development in the Sultanate of Oman.
The ministry noted that protecting the rights of creators و inventors serves as an effective tool to support the innovation ecosystem and enhance the competitiveness of the national economy, in line with the objectives of رؤية عُمان 2040.
The National Intellectual Property Office witnessed a significant increase in registered applications across various categories of intellectual property from 2024 to the first half of 2025.
By the end of the first half of this year, the number of patent applications registered stood at 1,253، بينما trademark applications وصل 19,884. Additionally, there were 48 industrial design applications و 246 copyright applications, reflecting a growing awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property and its role in safeguarding rights and enhancing the business environment.
This growth is attributed to the complementary efforts of the government in developing a supportive legislative و regulatory framework, streamlining procedures through digital transformation, and raising community awareness through educational campaigns and programs.
Patent applications covered a variety of advanced technology fields that reflect national priorities, including الطاقة المتجددة, particularly green hydrogen, الذكاء الاصطناعي, machine learning, الصناعات الكيميائية, mechanical and industrial engineering, as well as robotics, طائرات بدون طيار، و medical and pharmaceutical fields. Engineer Amjad bin Yasser Al-Zuqwani, a patent examiner at the National Intellectual Property Office, highlighted that Oman is experiencing a remarkable evolution in the innovation culture و intellectual property registration, driven by increasing awareness among innovators و رواد الأعمال. There has been a significant improvement in the quality of innovations and an expansion in their scope to include strategic sectors that support a knowledge-based economy.
He emphasized that the National Intellectual Property Office aims to continually enhance its services and provide a flexible legislative و procedural environment that fosters trust among innovators and safeguards their rights both domestically and internationally. He called on all innovators, entrepreneurs, and idea holders to take advantage of available digital platforms for registering their intellectual rights and to pursue protection that ensures the sustainability of knowledge value and achieves the desired economic returns.
Engineer Amjad bin Yasser Al-Zuqwani also stated that the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion seeks to strengthen the partnership between the public و private sectors in supporting the intellectual property system, intensifying educational programs, and providing incentives that contribute to building an innovative and knowledge-producing community.
