Refinery Output in Oman Rises 0.2% to 56.5 Million Barrels: What This Means for Investors and Business Growth
MUSCAT: According to preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, refinery production in Oman increased slightly by 0.2% to approximately 56.5 million barrels by the end of March 2026. However, output and export trends for various petroleum products showed mixed results during this period.
Regular gasoline (91 octane) production dropped sharply by 22.8% to 3.42 million barrels, down from 4.43 million barrels the previous year. Sales also fell by 1.5% to 3.79 million barrels. In contrast, premium gasoline (95 octane) production rose 9.5% to 3.5 million barrels, with domestic sales increasing by 5.9% to 3.5 million barrels. Despite this, exports of premium gasoline fell significantly by 61.5% to 415,400 barrels.
Diesel production remained largely stable, with a slight increase of 0.3% to 18.01 million barrels. Domestic sales grew by 5% to 4.43 million barrels, while exports edged up 0.8% to 14.89 million barrels.
Jet fuel production showed robust growth, rising 8.4% to 6.68 million barrels by March 2026. Sales surged by 19.9% to 1.13 million barrels, and exports increased by 7.6% to 5.45 million barrels, reflecting a boost in aviation activity and external demand.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production declined by 6.1% to 2.68 million barrels. Nonetheless, domestic sales slightly increased by 1.7% to 994,900 barrels, while exports fell by 2.1% to 824,500 barrels.
Naphtha production rose by 1.1% to 9 million barrels. Sales increased by 13.3% to 3.61 million barrels, but exports decreased by 2.9% to 5.92 million barrels.
Production of other refinery products increased by 3.5% to 10.05 million barrels. Domestic sales, however, dropped by 18.9% to 7.04 million barrels, whereas exports surged by 46.1% to 3.81 million barrels.
In the petrochemicals sector, gasoline production grew by 17.6% to 52,600 metric tonnes, with exports rising by 10.5% to 47,900 metric tonnes. Paraxylene production also experienced solid growth of 14.3%, reaching 160,500 metric tonnes, though exports declined by 6.6%.
Polypropylene production, on the other hand, sharply decreased by 34.8% to 51,100 metric tonnes. Despite lower output, domestic sales increased by 26.6% to 9,600 metric tonnes, while exports fell by 22.8% to 47,200 metric tonnes. — ONA

Oman’s refinery sector shows mixed but strategic shifts, with rising jet fuel and premium gasoline production signaling increasing domestic and external demand, especially from aviation and higher-quality fuel consumers. However, sharp declines in regular gasoline and polypropylene output present risks of market adjustment and supply-chain challengesينبغي للمستثمرين ورجال الأعمال الأذكياء التركيز على opportunities in premium fuels and petrochemicals innovation while preparing for volatility in traditional fuel segments.
