Mazoon Dairy’s Strategic Moves: Enhancing Food Security and Business Opportunities in Oman
MUSCAT, JUNE 27 — Mazoon Dairy is reaffirming its commitment to enhancing food security in Oman through a significant expansion of its dairy operations. This initiative aligns with the Sultanate’s efforts to decrease reliance on imports and bolster local supply chains.
Founded on October 20, 2019, Mazoon Dairy is situated on a vast 15-square-kilometre site in the Wilayat of Al Sinainah, Al Buraimi Governorate. The enterprise boasts a modern dairy farm that houses over 12,387 cows alongside a 50,000-square-metre factory dedicated to producing dairy and juice products for both local and regional markets.
Mazoon Dairy’s innovative approach positions it as a cornerstone of Oman’s strategic investments in food production—a sector increasingly vital as nations strive for more resilient supply chains and enhanced domestic production capabilities.
The farm employs sophisticated systems for animal welfare, nutrition, and veterinary oversight. Custom-built barns maintain a stable temperature of approximately 25°C year-round, optimizing productivity within Oman’s climate conditions. Currently, the average daily yield per cow is approximately 38 litres.
On the manufacturing front, Mazoon Dairy’s facility is equipped with a maximum production capacity of 650,000 litres per day, operating 12 production lines. Producing around 150 different products, the plant offers a range from essential dairy items to specialized goods catering to diverse consumer needs.
Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al Balushi, Production Planning Lead, emphasized the company’s agile production system, which is capable of swiftly adapting to market demands while upholding efficiency.
“We currently offer around 150 products, balancing traditional dairy items with specialized options designed for various consumers,” he noted.
He also highlighted the company’s significant investment in automation—manufacturing lines are fully automated, and packaging lines have achieved about 80 percent automation.
“This transformation has markedly improved efficiency, product quality, and reduced waste,” Al Balushi added.
Quality control and food safety remain top priorities, with over 100 tests conducted daily at various production stages. Abdulhamid bin Mohammed al Sarmi, Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manager, explained that quality assurance commences upon the receipt of raw milk and persists until the finished product reaches consumers.
“At Mazoon Dairy, quality is not just a final step; it’s ingrained in our culture from the moment we receive raw milk until the product is delivered to the consumer,” he stated.
Real-time monitoring and laboratory testing are integral to ensuring compliance with market standards.
“Building consumer trust hinges on consistent quality, not on temporary measures,” Al Sarmi remarked.
Mazoon Dairy’s operations exemplify Oman’s broader initiative to develop strategic industries that bolster national food security, promote local value creation, and facilitate industrial diversification in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.

Mazoon Dairy’s expansion exemplifies a strategic shift toward self-sufficiency in Oman’s food security efforts, presenting vital opportunities for businesses in food production and related sectors. With an emphasis on quality and automation, investors should consider the potential for innovative partnerships that align with the government’s Vision 2040 initiative, while also recognizing risks in relying heavily on domestic supply chains amid global market fluctuations.
