New Legitimacy for Mobile Digital IDs: Implications for Businesses in Oman
المسكات عنب طيب الشذا: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced that the Digital ID, accessible through a mobile application, is legally recognized and can be presented to government officials, including police officers, upon request.
According to a spokesperson for the ROP, "The digital ID can be legally presented to competent authorities in the event that the physical cards are not available."
This announcement accompanies the ROP’s introduction of a range of new e-services via the application for 2025. These services include a reporting system for human trafficking, the submission of technical fault reports, and the ability to use digital identity for electronic travel and financial transactions. Additional features include issuing a proof of license certificate through the ROP website, updating contact information for individuals and children, and accessing various documents such as birth certificates, passports, and investor cards.
The app will also allow users to book appointments for video calls with prison inmates and manage data regarding their family members. Notably, the Digital ID can function as a bank card and can be used to replace lost cards at Bank Muscat machines.
