Salalah Airport Reports 13% Growth During Khareef Dhofar Season: What This Means for Business and Investment Opportunities in Oman

MUSCAT – Salalah Airport experienced a significant 13.2% increase in passenger traffic during the Khareef Dhofar Season 2025. Attracted by the governorate’s cooler climate, cultural events, and leisure activities, a total of 562,561 passengers passed through the airport from June to August, compared to 496,936 during the same period in 2024.

Aircraft movements also rose by 10%, with 3,409 flights recorded this season, up from 3,105 last year. This growth highlights Salalah Airport’s expanding role as the primary gateway to Dhofar Governorate during the Khareef Dhofar Season.

Notably, the airport introduced a drive-through check-in service for the first time between July 15 and September 15, allowing passengers to complete travel procedures without leaving their vehicles. Additionally, Transom launched its "Marahib" service, which enables passengers to check in and drop off baggage in advance, including a home check-in option. Self-service kiosks were also introduced to enhance check-in speed and flexibility.

Salalah Airport also expanded its connectivity by welcoming new routes, including scheduled flights by Saudia, two charter flights from Basra operated by Fly Baghdad, and two charter flights from Baghdad by Iraqi Airways.

In collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority and partners in airlines, security, and ground handling, Oman Airports confirmed full operational readiness at both Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport to manage the seasonal increase in travellers.

Oman Airports emphasized that the new check-in services and additional routes contributed to smoother passenger flows and improved connectivity. The Khareef Dhofar Season 2025 further underscored Salalah Airport’s critical role in boosting tourism and regional travel links.
