Asyad Shipping Expands Dry Bulk Fleet with $209M Investment: Implications for Oman’s Shipping Industry and Business Growth
المسكات عنب طيب الشذا: Asyad Shipping, the majority Omani state-owned maritime transportation company, has announced the acquisition of three Newcastlemax Dry Bulk Carriers for a total of $209 million as part of its growth strategy.
Dr. Ibrahim al Nadhairi, Chief Executive Officer, stated, “With an increase in our Dry Bulk capacity, we are further strengthening our capabilities to deliver solutions for our customers while keeping pace with rising global demand. Expanding our Dry Bulk segment is integral to our growth strategy, and finalizing this deal allows us to meet increasing demand and enhance our service offerings.”
The vessels are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026, significantly expanding the company’s fleet of Dry Bulk Carriers and positioning it as a key player in the region. Each vessel has a capacity of 208,000 deadweight tons and is equipped with an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) and a Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS). Additionally, the vessels feature an energy-efficient hull design and engines optimized for thermal and mechanical efficiency, ensuring compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations.
In a separate announcement to the Muscat Stock Exchange, publicly-traded Asyad Shipping revealed that its commercial subsidiary, Oman Charter Company LLG, has signed a Contract of Affreightment (COA) with a global mining company for a 10-year period.
Dr. Ibrahim al Nadhairi further noted, “This agreement enhances our longstanding relationships and service offerings to customers. As we implement our growth strategy, we are reinforcing our business to offer competitive solutions that facilitate efficient access to global markets.”
The agreement, signed on September 22, 2025, is set to take effect in the second quarter of 2026, generating revenue for the company throughout the contracted period.
