OSHRM’s 5th HR Forum in Salalah: Key Insights on ‘Leading from the Heart’ for Business Growth in Oman

Salalah: The Oman Society for Human Resource Management (OSHRM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, has inaugurated the 5th Annual Human Resource Forum in Salalah. This year’s forum, held at the Millennium Hotel Salalah, is themed “Leading from the Heart – The Power of Emotional and Social Intelligence in Communities.” The two-day event convenes senior leaders, experts, and practitioners specializing in management and organizational development.

The forum aims to promote human-centered leadership that empowers individuals, motivates teams, and enhances productivity. These goals align closely with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on developing national talent and boosting institutional competitiveness.

The opening session featured welcome remarks by Faisal Al-Siyabi, CEO of OSHRM, followed by a keynote address from Her Highness Sayyida Meyyan bint Shihab Al Said. Her Highness emphasized the significance of values-based leadership as a driver of sustainable development and as a vital tool for institutions to navigate change effectively.

Day One included several insightful sessions:

  • “When Decisions Differ and Conflicts Arise” presented by Shaikha Al-Bassamiya.
  • “From Content to Inspiration” delivered by Abdullah Al-Rawahi.
  • A panel discussion titled “Transforming Towards Value-Driven Leadership,” featuring Sheikh Abdullah Al-Rawasi and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zuwed Al-Ma’shari.

The forum also paid tribute to Dr. Saleh Al-Fahdi for his notable contributions to leadership thought. Featured working papers addressed topics such as emotional intelligence and human behavior, team empowerment and organizational cohesion, and the “magic of strategic planning.” A practical session called “Maximising Personal Impact” introduced participants to tools including the Pareto 80/20 principle and the DISC behavioral model.

Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Rayami, an OSHRM board member, stated, “We are here in Salalah to highlight leadership from the heart—demonstrating how emotional and social intelligence enable leaders to succeed and organizations to flourish.” He also noted that this year’s forum highlights the journeys of employees with disabilities who have progressed into leadership roles, offering practical lessons for others to follow.

The program will continue on Wednesday with case studies from various organizations illustrating how emotional and social intelligence have influenced leadership practices and driven performance improvements. Organizers stress that the forum serves as a strategic platform to translate the concept of “leading from the heart” into actionable human resource practices that build capability and support Oman’s broader development goals.
