New Dhofar Economic Zone Campaign: How ‘Mar Alayna’ Boosts Tourism and Investment Opportunities in Oman

On July 12, the Duqm Special Economic Zone launched the fourth edition of the “Mar Alayna” campaign to promote the tourist attractions in the Duqm region of Al Wusta Governorate. This initiative aims to position Duqm as a preferred destination for travelers heading to or returning from the Dhofar Governorate during the autumn season.

The campaign focuses on enhancing the tourism experience for visitors by highlighting the natural features and recreational options available in Duqm and the surrounding areas. It encourages travelers to stop and explore its attractions rather than just passing through on their way to other destinations.

The tourism route from Muscat to Duqm and then to Salalah plays a vital role in enriching the tourism sector, allowing locals and tourists to discover numerous sites along the Arabian Sea.

Mustafa bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Head of Communication and Media in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, stated that the campaign, first launched in 2022, has successfully enhanced Duqm’s reputation as a promising tourism destination in عُمان. This year’s edition aims to attract a broader audience by offering diverse activities and complete tourism experiences that encourage prolonged stays, making the Duqm Special Economic Zone an ideal stop when heading to or returning from Dhofar.

Over recent years, Duqm has experienced significant development in its tourism infrastructure, including amenities, services, hotels, restaurants, parks, and roads. The region now boasts over 2,500 hotel rooms across various four-star and three-star hotels, as well as serviced apartments, and offers camping options through the well-equipped Duqm Beach Park.

The campaign targets families and groups traveling to Dhofar from northern and central Oman, tourists from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as well as young adventurers and nature enthusiasts, including social media influencers. Al Balushi emphasized that Duqm has much to offer every segment of visitors.

Events in the campaign, running until the end of September, include poetry nights, a kite flying event, a charity kitchen initiative, and children’s activities at the new Duqm Park in the Sae commercial area. Participating hotels will also provide special offers and discounts for travelers, alongside kiosks selling Omani products and crafts, to support local small and medium enterprises.

Duqm boasts several key tourist attractions, including Rock Park, diverse beaches, and nearby sites such as the Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, Ras Al Madrakah, and others, enhancing the visitor experience.

The promotional campaign will be executed through digital platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) و إنستغرام, targeting the desired audience with a modern approach that strengthens Duqm’s digital presence and transforms each visit into an inspiring story worth sharing.
