Digital ID Legally Recognized by ROP: Implications for Business Operations in Oman
المسكات عنب طيب الشذا: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has confirmed that the Digital ID accessible through a mobile application is legally recognized and can be presented to government officials, including police officers, upon request.
A spokesperson for the ROP stated, "The digital ID can be presented legally to the competent authorities if physical cards are not available."
This announcement coincides with the introduction of several e-services via the app for 2025. These services will include a reporting mechanism for human trafficking, the ability to submit technical fault reports, and the use of digital identity in electronic travel portals. Additionally, the app will facilitate identity verification in financial transactions, enable the issuance of proof of license certificates through the ROP website, and allow users to update personal information such as phone numbers and electricity meter numbers.
Users will also have the option to print new licenses at self-service machines, view birth certificates, passports, investor cards, and data related to employees through the app. Furthermore, it will allow users to book appointments for video calls with prison inmates.
Among other features, the app will provide details about family members and can function as a bank card or assist in replacing a lost card through Bank Muscat’s machines.
