Muscat: Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Vice President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), visited Muttrah Souq and Al Mirani Fort this evening as part of his official working visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

During his tour of Muttrah Souq, Councillor Parmelin explored a rich array of traditional and contemporary goods, including handicrafts such as silverwork and Khanjars (traditional daggers), traditional weapons, fabrics, Omani halwa (a local sweet), and various spices. He also appreciated the souq’s intricate alleyways and decorations, which are inspired by authentic Omani heritage and crafted from local materials that preserve its traditional character.

At Al Mirani Fort, Parmelin toured the facilities showcasing ancient heritage collections and artifacts. He received a briefing on the fort’s historical significance, notable events across different periods, and enjoyed Omani hospitality while taking in the panoramic views where the Sea of Oman meets towering mountains. The visit also included glimpses of the old architectural remains of Muscat’s historic quarters, highlighting the cultural and natural beauty of the area.
