2025, propelled by strong exports from the United States and a significant rise in demand from Europe. However, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pose risks to growth this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the IGU, global LNG trade surged by 6.3% to reach <strong>436.98 million tonnes<\/strong> last year, marking the fastest annual growth since 2022. This increase was largely driven by Europe\u2019s efforts to replenish inventories and replace dwindling Russian gas supplies.<\/p>\n<p>IGU President Andrea Steger noted, &#8220;The conflict in the Gulf has damaged LNG infrastructure, cast a shadow over the prospects for expansion projects in the region, and created uncertainty for Asian buyers regarding flows and price increases.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Europe recorded the most substantial rise in LNG imports, with an increase of <strong>26.1 million tonnes<\/strong>, bringing total purchases to <strong>126.2 million tonnes<\/strong> during the year.<\/p>\n<p>The Asia-Pacific region remained the largest LNG-importing market, receiving <strong>168.7 million tonnes<\/strong>, although this represented a decline of <strong>9.2 million tonnes<\/strong> primarily due to reduced demand in China and India. China maintained its status as the world&#8217;s largest LNG importer, importing <strong>69.77 million tonnes<\/strong>, despite an 8.9 million tonne drop from the previous year. This decline was attributed to stronger domestic gas production and increased pipeline supplies from Russia, which reduced reliance on seaborne LNG.<\/p>\n<p>Japan followed as the second-largest importer with <strong>67.37 million tonnes<\/strong>, while South Korea raised its imports by <strong>1.7 million tonnes<\/strong>\u060c \u0627\u0644\u0645\u062c\u0645\u0648\u0639 <strong>48.67 million tonnes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The report indicated varying trends across Asia; while China&#8217;s imports fell, declining domestic production in parts of Southeast Asia led to greater reliance on spot LNG cargoes.<\/p>\n<p>The IGU cautioned that persistently high LNG prices might limit demand growth in emerging Asian economies, particularly in South and Southeast Asia, where affordability remains a significant issue.<\/p>\n<p>On the supply side, the United States continued as the largest LNG exporter, with shipments reaching <strong>110.74 million tonnes<\/strong> in 2025. Qatar followed with <strong>81.51 million tonnes<\/strong>, while Australia came in close at <strong>80.32 million tonnes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The IGU, which represents over 130 organizations covering more than 90% of the global gas market, emphasized that geopolitical developments and supply disruptions will play crucial roles in shaping LNG trade in the upcoming months. \u2014
