18 Farm Contracts Signed in Oman: Boosting Food Security and Investment Opportunities for Local Businesses
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, has announced the signing of 18 agricultural usufruct contracts aimed at investment projects across various governorates in the Sultanate of Oman.
These agreements represent a total investment exceeding RO 1.9 million and encompass approximately 300 acres of land. The projects are distributed across the Governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Sharqiyah North, Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South, Al Wusta, and Dhofar, demonstrating a commitment to balanced agricultural development throughout the region.
The scope of the projects includes diverse activities such as the cultivation of wild trees, beekeeping, and vegetable production utilizing modern technologies, in addition to grape farming in Al Sharqiyah North. Other initiatives involve the cultivation of fodder and field crops, as well as the production of guava, sapodilla, and onions. Furthermore, a frankincense production project is planned in Dhofar, while Al Batinah South will see the establishment of a water purification and bottling industrial project.
This initiative highlights the effective coordination between governmental entities and aligns with national priorities to maximize the utilization of agricultural land through sustainable investment. The projects are expected to enhance domestic production efficiency, strengthen food supply chains, and cultivate new agricultural investment opportunities across the governorates.
The agricultural sector is experiencing significant growth, with over 585 usufruct contracts signed last year, underscoring its vital role in bolstering food security and sustainable local production.
Officials noted that these recent agreements reflect ongoing investment in agriculture, contributing to economic diversification, empowering entrepreneurs, and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, while simultaneously adding value to state-owned land.
The signing ceremony was attended by Eng. Hamad bin Ali al Nazwani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning for Housing, and Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture, alongside several officials from the sector. — ONA
