KHASAB: In a major initiative to solidify Musandam Governorate’s reputation as a leading marine tourism destination, officials have announced the inaugural Musandam International Diving Festival. This event is being organized in partnership with the Musandam Exploration Diving Centre. Details were unveiled at a press conference held today at the Atana Khasab Hotel.

Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidy, Governor of Musandam, and Badr bin Mohammed al Shihi, owner of the Musandam Exploration Centre, addressed the media during the briefing.

Governor Sayyid Ibrahim confirmed that the festival will take place in the Wilayat of Khasab from August 25 to 28. It is part of ongoing efforts to enhance eco-tourism and marine activities during the summer. The festival aims to attract divers, tourists, and investors internationally by offering a sustainable and immersive marine experience.

Musandam’s waters, positioned at a strategic crossroads between the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, feature a unique marine ecosystem abundant in biodiversity, making them ideal for divers at all skill levels, the Governor emphasized. He further noted that diving tourism has the potential to become a cornerstone of the Governorate’s tourism economy by drawing high-value visitors seeking nature-driven and immersive experiences.

Badr bin Mohammed al Shihi highlighted the rising interest among underwater photographers in discovering new coral-rich environments, underscoring the festival’s timely role in showcasing Musandam’s diving potential. He added that while the centre has actively promoted Musandam at international exhibitions, hosting the festival locally is a significant milestone. It reduces reliance on external marketing efforts and garners global attention, particularly with the participation of prominent figures in the diving community.
