First-Ever Film City Project in Oman: How a RO 12 Million Investment Could Transform Your Business Opportunities
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth has announced plans to launch a ‘Film City’ project, which will entail an investment of RO 12 million. This initiative is based on the outcomes of Creative and Cultural Workshops held in March.
Nader al Rawahy, a representative from the Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit at the Ministry, indicated that the project is expected to create over 100 job opportunities for Omanis and aims to facilitate the production and export of films.
The ‘Film City’ is one of three projects stemming from the workshops, which collectively have an investment value of RO 15.4 million. The other two projects include “Ibda’a Park” (Creativity Park), designed to attract Omani creators with an investment of RO 2.2 million, and “Yaj,” which aims to enhance MICE tourism in collaboration with an Italian firm, valued at RO 1.1 million.
Officials also reported that the workshops have identified eight ready-to-launch projects with a total investment value of RO 19 million. Further details regarding these opportunities, including approvals and locations for implementation, will be disclosed shortly.
In a statement to ONA, Eng. Aisha bint Mohammed al Saifi, Deputy Head of the National Programme for Investment and Export Development (Nazdahir), emphasized that the initiative’s primary goal is to empower creative industries to thrive independently, as they represent a promising sector. She also mentioned that the program is currently focused on developing larger-scale projects and investment avenues within this field.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth released a roadmap outlining the current status of creative industries in Oman. While the global value of the creative sector is estimated at $985 billion, the local contribution remains unclear.
