Future Salalah City: How the Eco-Integrated Coastal Project Can Transform Business Opportunities for 60,000 Residents

SALALAH: Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has announced the launch of Future Salalah City, an ambitious urban development project that will cover over 7 million square meters and provide 12,000 housing units, accommodating approximately 60,000 residents.

During a recent field update in Dhofar, Ahmed al Kamyani, Director General of Lands at the Ministry, emphasized the project’s thoughtful design, which harmonizes with the natural landscape. Notably, Future Salalah City will be located along the picturesque Al-Tawiyyah coastal strip, an area that includes sensitive ecological sites such as coastal lagoons (khors).

"The city is being developed in accordance with high environmental and urban planning standards," al Kamyani stated. "Its design takes into account the distinctive characteristics of the site, ensuring a balanced relationship between constructed areas and natural features."

To minimize urban sprawl, the city will emphasize high-density residential zones while preserving the essence of Salalah’s natural and coastal environments. Future Salalah City will incorporate comprehensive infrastructure and public services aimed at promoting family stability, social cohesion, and sustainable living.

Al Kamyani highlighted that the project presents diverse investment opportunities across all sectors for private investors, aligning with the government’s goal to enhance public-private partnerships in real estate and infrastructure. Mechanisms for owning residential and commercial units will be disclosed at a later date.

This initiative is part of a larger strategic planning effort by the Ministry under Oman Vision 2040, focusing on sustainable urbanization, coastal protection, and economic diversification within the Dhofar Governorate.
