Hafeet Rail Receives First Shipment of Railway Tracks: What This Means for Oman’s Infrastructure Investment and Business Growth
MUSCAT, AUG 26 – In a significant milestone for the rapid development of the Oman–UAE Railway Network, Hafeet Rail, the project’s developer and operator, has received the first shipment of railway tracks at the General Cargo Terminal of SOHAR Port and Freezone, managed by C Steinweg Oman LLC. This delivery marks a crucial advancement in linking the Sultanate of Oman with the United Arab Emirates and sets the stage for the next phase of on-ground construction.
The shipment includes over 3,800 pieces of E260 railway tracks, each 25 meters long, totaling 5,700 metric tonnes. These tracks were manufactured at ArcelorMittal’s facility in Gijón, Spain, adhering to the highest international standards for rail transport. This batch is part of a larger supply plan amounting to 33,100 metric tonnes.
Designed to support heavy freight and passenger loads of up to 32.4 tonnes per axle, the tracks ensure robust performance and long-term reliability tailored to the specific geographic and environmental conditions of the route. Each rail has undergone stringent precision manufacturing processes to ensure structural integrity, reinforced by advanced fastening systems featuring high-strength clips and bolts, to maintain stability under demanding operational conditions.
This shipment enables the commencement of track-laying operations along the railway line and allows preparations for receiving further shipments in the coming months. These steps will facilitate progress in line with the project’s planned timeline.
The Oman–UAE Railway Network stretches 238 kilometers, connecting SOHAR Port and Freezone with the UAE’s national railway. This project is set to enhance supply chain integration, boost the efficiency of the transport infrastructure, and foster economic cooperation and sustainable development between Oman and the UAE.
Hafeet Rail is developing and operating this strategic initiative through a partnership involving Asyad Group, Etihad Rail, and Mubadala. The railway network is a key element in strengthening regional economic integration, advancing sustainable transport, and providing sophisticated logistics capabilities that support cross-border trade and stimulate local markets in both countries.
