MUSCAT: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted a seminar titled “Leadership and Management Development” in Muscat on Tuesday.

His Highness Sayyid Luay bin Ghalib al Said was the chief guest at the event, which also featured Shaikh Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI, alongside members of the State Council, dignitaries, business leaders, and entrepreneurs.

The seminar gathered esteemed professionals from Oman who emphasized the significance of knowledge sharing and professional development in leadership and management.

In his opening remarks, Shaikh Faisal stated, “The aim of this symposium is to elevate the skills of private sector leaders. We are joined today by a team of international, Gulf, and Omani experts to assess the latest management practices aimed at enhancing productivity in the private sector while maintaining the existing administrative structure of organizations.”

Sayyid Ayman bin Hamad al Busaidy, Vice President of SABCO Group, noted, “The leadership symposium highlighted that transformational leadership depends on openness, communication, and compassion, enabling organizations to navigate crises in an ever-changing world. Drawing from lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges in the private sector, speakers emphasized the importance of balancing strategy with a human touch to achieve realistic and attainable goals.”

Areej Mohsin Darwish, Chairwoman of the Automotive, Construction Equipment, and Renewable Energy Group at Mohsin Haider Darwish LLC, delivered a keynote address, stating, “Today’s leadership is characterized by inspiration, adaptability, and the capacity to tackle crises with confidence. This conference gathers experts to share experiences, transfer best practices, and discuss the future of professional networks focused on productivity, innovation, and competitiveness to drive business forward.” She added that the event aims to foster leadership skills, promote innovation, create youth employment opportunities, enhance cross-sector economic ties, and generate sustainable growth and investment.

In an exclusive statement to the Observer, Swati Dlamini Mandela, an entrepreneur and humanitarian, described the seminar as an essential platform for global collaboration and idea-sharing amid contemporary challenges. She highlighted the necessity of including women in leadership discussions, stating, “Although major summits often feature many men, it is crucial to place women at the forefront of conversations about leadership and problem-solving, as diverse perspectives are essential in decision-making.”

A significant highlight of the event was a panel discussion entitled “Inspirational Leadership in a Rapidly Changing World: Between Self-Empowerment and Crisis Management,” featuring prominent figures including Sayyid Ayman bin Hamad al Busaidy, Dr. Aflah bin Said al Hadhrami (Managing Director of Petroleum Development Oman), Swati Mandela, and Aisha Alfardan (Vice Chairwoman of the Qatar Businesswomen Association).

The seminar also included a live session focused on “Challenges and Opportunities in a Transforming World,” moderated by Dr. Amer bin Awadh al Rawas, Chairman of Concordia Group. He addressed the obstacles faced by business owners against the backdrop of regional and international changes, while also highlighting the new opportunities arising from shifting economic conditions.
