Leclerc Dominates Third Free Practice at British Formula 1: Implications for Sponsorship and Investment Opportunities in Motorsport
Silverstone, UK – July 5: Charles Leclerc from Monaco recorded the fastest time during the third practice session for the British Grand Prix, set to take place tomorrow, as part of the Formula 1 World Championship. The top three drivers finished within a margin of 0.1 seconds.
Leclerc, driving for Ferrari, clocked a lap time of 1:25.498 on the iconic Silverstone circuit, which spans 5.891 kilometers.
He finished ahead of Oscar Piastri from McLaren, who currently leads the drivers’ standings, and Max Verstappen from Red Bull, with times of 0.068 seconds and 0.087 seconds behind, respectively.
Lando Norris, also from McLaren, came in fourth, trailing the leader by 0.108 seconds, indicating that the upcoming official qualifying session and race will be highly competitive.
British driver Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari, who led the first practice session on Friday and has won the British Grand Prix nine times with 11 podium finishes, placed 11th. His performance could have been better, but he had to cancel a fast lap due to a red flag caused by debris on the track after a crash.
The countdown continued during the red flag period after Brazilian driver Gabriel Portolito from Sauber exited the session, apparently due to a suspension break following a barrier collision. Shortly after, British driver Oliver Behrman from Haas hit the barriers at the pit entrance, signaling that his brakes were cold.
Formula 1 has reached the midpoint of the season, with tomorrow’s race being the 12th out of 24 this year.
Piastri leads the drivers’ standings by 15 points over Norris, who won the last race in Austria. Verstappen is in third place, trailing by 61 points, after Italian driver Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes outperformed him in Austria.
