Impact of 761 Fires in Turkey: What the Destruction of Entire Villages in Izmir Means for Investors and Businesses

Istanbul, July 6 – Recent statistics from the Turkish government revealed that 761 wildfires have occurred in the past ten days, accounting for approximately one-quarter of the fires reported this year.

As of now, all fires have been extinguished and contained, according to the Turkish Directorate of Communications on X.

The fires included 20 significant blazes across the provinces of Izmir, Sakarya, Hatay, Balıkesir, Manisa, Istanbul, and Bursa.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that at least 228 homes have been severely damaged in Izmir alone, with ongoing assessments to determine the full extent of the damage. Those who have lost their homes will be temporarily housed in containers.

The fires have resulted in widespread destruction, destroying three villages in Izmir and leading to the deaths of one person and two rescue workers. In recent days, tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated from affected areas.
