Oman and Lebanon Strengthen Economic Ties: What This Means for Investors and Entrepreneurs
MUSCAT: Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, met on Sunday with Dr. Amer Bisat, Lebanon’s Minister of Economy and Trade, to explore opportunities for enhancing economic and investment cooperation between Oman and Lebanon.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, focused on broadening trade, investment, and industrial collaboration to benefit both nations. The ministers discussed initiatives to boost economic integration, increase bilateral trade, and establish direct sea and air shipping routes between the two countries.
Key topics included maximizing the advantages of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area Agreement, promoting joint ventures between Omani and Lebanese companies, and expanding re-export activities. They also reviewed a proposal to create a joint Omani-Lebanese Business Council aimed at strengthening ties between the private sectors of both countries.
The discussions highlighted potential in industrial and logistics cooperation, specifically enabling Lebanese companies to leverage Oman’s economic and industrial zones for storage and re-exporting of Lebanese food products. The two sides agreed to form working groups to explore import and export opportunities and identify new areas for collaboration.
Both ministers emphasized the significance of the upcoming Omani-Lebanese Forum and accompanying trade exhibition, scheduled for Monday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event will bring together public and private sector representatives to facilitate direct dialogue among business leaders and showcase investment prospects. Multiple memoranda of understanding are expected to be signed to further deepen economic relations.
Minister al Yousef affirmed Oman’s commitment to fostering strong economic partnerships with friendly and brotherly nations, including Lebanon.
