Omantel’s Role in Accelerating Oman’s Digital Transformation: Key Insights for Investors and Businesses
Muscat Hosts Middle East Global Carrier Community Meeting 2025
The Middle East Global Carrier Community Meeting (ME GCCM) 2025 was held in Muscat on November 3–4, attracting over 1,000 telecom leaders from more than 50 countries and 200 organizations.
Hosted by Omantel in collaboration with Zain Omantel International (ZOI), the event emphasized Oman’s evolving role as a regional and global hub for digital connectivity and innovation.
Under the theme “Driving Digital Connectivity Together,” the conference featured keynote sessions and masterclasses led by industry giants such as AWS, Nokia, and Ciena. These discussions focused on emerging opportunities in cloud computing, content delivery, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
In the last decade, Omantel has transformed from a traditional telecom provider into an integrated technology group, playing a pivotal role in Oman’s digital transformation. Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the company is committed to driving innovation and bolstering the national digital economy through significant investments in cloud, data, and cybersecurity solutions. This shift is supported by one of the region’s most advanced wholesale ecosystems, characterized by subsea cables, carrier-neutral data centers, and strong global partnerships.
Eng. Yasser bin Redha al Lawati, Director of Marketing and Domestic Operations at Zain Omantel International, highlighted that Omantel’s infrastructure is central to Oman’s digital aspirations. He noted that the company’s data centers, MC1 in Barka and SN1 in Salalah, developed in partnership with Equinix, significantly enhance Oman’s capability to support cloud and content services. Additionally, investments in over 20 international submarine cable systems connect global partners across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia.
Al Lawati also pointed out the alignment of digital progress with Oman’s economic and social objectives. He stated, “At Omantel, we believe progress should create value for everyone — our partners, our economy, and our communities. Each subsea landing and data center supports digital growth and contributes to Oman’s Blue Economy. The same waters that once carried trade now carry data, linking Oman’s maritime heritage with its digital future.”
Furthermore, through Zain Omantel International, the company expands its regional presence by combining Omantel’s robust infrastructure with Zain’s operations across eight markets, serving over 50 million customers. This unified approach simplifies connectivity for global carriers, hyperscalers, and content providers, offering a streamlined experience within the Middle East.
