Oman as a Key Energy Transition Partner: What This Means for Investors and Businesses in Oman

Muscat, November 30, 2025 – Oman hosted a significant summit on Sunday as part of the ‘EU-GCC Cooperation on Green Transition Project.’ Held alongside the 2025 Oman Green Hydrogen Summit (GHSO), the event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts from both Oman and the European Union.

In his keynote address, Christophe Farnaud, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Sultanate of Oman, emphasized the summit’s timely importance. He noted, “This summit comes at a pivotal moment. Despite some headwinds, the global energy transition continues at a rapid pace, with hydrogen playing a crucial role by linking renewable energy generation, industrial innovation, climate ambitions, and new economic opportunities.”

Commending Oman’s dedication to green hydrogen, Farnaud stated, “Oman has established itself as a leading and forward-thinking actor in this arena. Through its National Hydrogen Strategy, the creation of Hydrom, and its goal to produce over 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030—supported by tens of billions of dollars in planned investment—Oman is clearly signaling its readiness to lead the sector.”

He added, “Combining Oman’s extensive renewable energy potential with Europe’s technological expertise and increasing demand for clean molecules presents a real opportunity for partnership. This collaboration can harness our strengths, build long-term resilience, and shape the emerging global hydrogen economy. Beyond technology, our cooperation aims to build ecosystems that link research, policy, skills, and industry to foster sustainable growth. This is precisely the intent of today’s forum—to explore the full hydrogen value chain, from production and transportation to end-use in sectors like shipping, heavy industry, and power generation.”

Looking ahead, Farnaud concluded, “The EU regards Oman not only as a vital partner in the energy transition but also as a strategic connector between regions—bridging Europe, the Gulf, and Asia in the future global energy landscape.”

The one-day summit included a fireside chat on hydrogen market frameworks, scaling, and investment, alongside two panel discussions. The first panel focused on leveraging the Oman-EU partnership and investment to scale up green hydrogen, while the second addressed building hydrogen ecosystems.

The broader events under the 2025 Oman Green Hydrogen Summit will continue from December 1 to 3.

Oman’s strategic focus on green hydrogen, underscored by its National Hydrogen Strategy and ambitious production targets, positions the country as a global leader in the emerging hydrogen economy. For businesses and investors, this opens significant opportunities in renewable energy infrastructure, technology partnerships, and export markets, especially leveraging the strong EU-GCC collaboration. Smart entrepreneurs should consider early investment in hydrogen value chain sectors—production, transport, and end-use applications—to capitalize on Oman’s role as a regional energy hub and bridge between Europe, the Gulf, and Asia.
