Oman Rolls Out Major Water and Wastewater Projects: What This Means for Investors and Businesses
MUSCAT, DEC 24 — Nama Water Services (NWS), the state-owned integrated water and wastewater utility of Oman, has announced a comprehensive package of infrastructure tenders aimed at enhancing water transmission resilience, improving wastewater planning, and upgrading critical operational assets across multiple governorates. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to boosting service reliability and supporting sustainable urban development.
Central to the tender package is the construction of reinforcement works for the Al Hazm–Al Rustaq water transmission system in South Al Batinah Governorate. This key project is designed to strengthen one of the region’s main water supply corridors, improving network reliability, reducing vulnerability, and meeting the increasing domestic, commercial, and industrial demand in South Al Batinah, one of Oman’s fastest-growing areas.
Another major tender seeks consultancy services for the design and supervision of wastewater networks and sewage treatment plants in Sawqirah, Abu Madhabi, and Al Ajaez in Al Wusta Governorate. This consultancy contract highlights Nama Water Services’ proactive approach to sanitation planning in emerging urban centers, aiming to enhance wastewater management, environmental conservation, and public health in the governorate.
In addition to these headline projects, NWS has issued multiple tenders covering supply, installation, rehabilitation, and long-term procurement to improve both operational efficiency and system resilience. Notably, a three-year call-off contract for ductile iron fittings will secure a steady supply of vital components for water transmission and distribution, helping to minimize supply chain disruptions.
Another tender focuses on the supply, installation, and commissioning of an emergency submersible pumping system at Main Pumping Station 1 of the Seeb Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). This project seeks to fortify emergency response capabilities and ensure continuous wastewater operations during system failures or peak loads at one of Muscat’s principal treatment facilities.
Further, tenders have been issued for the supply, installation, and testing of an internal lining system for Cluster No. 3 pipelines in Al Dakhiliyah and South Al Batinah governorates. This upgrade aims to extend pipeline service life, improve hydraulic performance, and reduce water losses, aligning with Nama Water Services’ asset management and network optimization goals.
Finally, a rehabilitation project at Seeb STP’s control room will upgrade monitoring, control, and operational systems to enhance oversight, reliability, and safety, thereby supporting uninterrupted wastewater treatment services.
Tender eligibility is open to local companies registered with the Projects, Tender and Local Content Authority. Selected projects also permit participation by specialized international firms with relevant expertise. Tender documents are accessible via Nama Water Services’ e-tendering portal, with all electronic bid submissions due by 2:00 pm on the respective deadlines, ranging from late January to mid-February 2026.
