Muttrah Teleferik Set to Attract Over 4 Million Annual Visitors: A Game Changer for Oman’s Tourism and Business Landscape
Muttrah Teleferik Cable Car Project Advances Towards Completion
MUSCAT, JANUARY 6 — The Muttrah Teleferik cable car project is now in an advanced phase of development, marking a significant step forward for tourism infrastructure in the Wilayat of Muttrah. Recent updates indicate that the project is anticipated to attract over four million visitors each year, establishing it as a key urban tourism attraction in the region.
This innovative system will feature 18 modern cable cars, each capable of accommodating eight passengers. Visitors will enjoy breathtaking views of Muttrah’s coastline, dramatic mountains, and historic urban landscape. The teleferik is designed to handle approximately 400 visitors per hour, ensuring efficient operation during peak tourism seasons.
In addition to providing transportation, the project aims to serve as a catalyst for a broader tourism and leisure ecosystem. It is expected to enhance visitor movement throughout important areas of Muttrah, increase the average length of stays, and create new investment opportunities in hospitality, retail, and cultural experiences along the route.
Scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2026, the cable car service will feature three stations, beginning at the Muttrah Fish Market and passing through Hay Al Ward (the Flower Park). This route is set to form a continuous connection between key landmarks in Muttrah and will be highlighted as the longest overwater cable car in the Middle East.
Once operational, the Muttrah Teleferik will transform how both residents and tourists engage with one of Oman’s most cherished destinations, seamlessly integrating modern infrastructure with natural beauty and cultural heritage. This initiative underscores ongoing efforts to diversify tourism offerings and reinforce Muscat’s status as a vibrant, year-round tourist destination.
