Oman and Canada Deepen Mining Ties: What This Means for Investment Opportunities in Oman’s Resource Sector
MUSCAT, Jan 19 – The Ministry of Energy and Minerals hosted the Oman-Canada Mining Business Forum at the Kempinski Hotel Muscat. This event, part of a two-day initiative, featured both forum sessions and a field visit designed for the Canadian delegation. The primary objective was to enhance cooperation and partnerships between Oman and Canada while highlighting investment opportunities in the mining sector.
Key attendees included Mohsin bin Hamad al Hadhrami, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and Jean-Philippe Linteau, the Canadian Ambassador to Oman. Senior officials from various governmental bodies also participated, including representatives from the Oman Investment Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Economy, and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The forum attracted a distinguished Canadian delegation from economic sectors associated with mining, alongside concession holders and companies already operating in Oman. Experts in mining, downstream industries, and sustainability were also present.
Under-Secretary al Hadhrami emphasized that the forum represents an essential platform for enhancing bilateral partnerships in the mining sector. He noted that it aims to create long-term strategic alliances, empower the private sector, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge, technologies, and expertise between Oman and Canada.
Saud al Mahrouqi, Director General of Minerals, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to attracting high-quality investments and maximizing the potential of mineral resources. He remarked that the forum aims to forge lasting cooperation with Canadian mining institutions, align strategic visions with investment opportunities, and boost the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
On the second day, the Canadian delegation visited the copper quarry and processing plant managed by Al Hadeetha Resources Company in the Al Washihi area. Participants received detailed insights into operational processes and production-related value chains, offering a practical perspective on the investment potential and collaboration opportunities within Oman’s mining sector.
