Omantel Launches Otech: What This Means for Accelerating Your Business Digital Transformation in Oman
MUSCAT – Omantel has officially launched Otech, a new platform designed to serve as a future-technology provider and a cornerstone for Oman’s digital transformation. The announcement included several strategic partnerships across hyperscale cloud services, cybersecurity, and systems integration.
The launch event took place at the Royal Opera House Muscat, under the patronage of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, president of the Oman Investment Authority. The ceremony was attended by senior officials, private-sector leaders, and technology experts.
Mulham bin Bashir al Jaraf, vice president of the Oman Investment Authority and chairman of Omantel’s board, emphasized that the launch marks Omantel’s evolution from a traditional telecommunications operator into an integrated digital technology company. This shift is guided by a strategy centered on innovation and fostering the digital economy. Al Jaraf highlighted that the initiative aligns closely with Oman Vision 2040 and the 11th Five-Year Plan, particularly focusing on the digital economy pillar and the development of knowledge- and technology-based sectors.
He outlined that Omantel’s transformation approach involves building an ecosystem that upgrades infrastructure, delivers digital solutions, cultivates national expertise, enhances business models, strengthens cross-sector integration, and creates sustainable economic value. A critical part of this transition is placing Omanis at the core by providing training and upskilling opportunities in digital solutions, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Al Jaraf described Otech’s launch as a tangible step in implementing this strategic vision.
Alaa Al Din bin Abdullah Bait Fadhl, Omantel’s CEO and chairman of Otech, described the launch as a significant milestone for both the company and Oman’s broader digital sector. He noted that Otech aims to build a unified technology ecosystem rooted in innovation, competitiveness, and economic diversification. The platform is positioned to play a central role in enabling the digital economy and supporting Oman’s ambition to become a regional telecommunications and technology hub.
Maqbool bin Salim Al Wohaibi, acting CEO of Otech, stated that incorporating Oman Data Park into the Otech ecosystem enhances the national digital infrastructure by expanding data centre operations and sovereign cloud services for government and private sector clients. It also bolsters data localisation efforts and facilitates access to advanced cloud environments.
Otech announced partnerships with several major players: Oracle for hyperscale cloud platforms via Oracle Alloy; PwC for cybersecurity solutions and local capability development; and Nagarro for systems integration of emerging technologies and sector-specific solutions. It also unveiled collaborations with Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 team for threat intelligence and incident response, and Fortinet for cloud-enabled SASE cybersecurity solutions.
Additional partnerships include Nama Shared Services to enhance systems integration and smart-utilities solutions, alongside local startups such as Orki, Decoil, and Remedy.
Otech consolidates Omantel Group’s technology assets—including entities like Oman Data Park and Tedom—under a unified operating model. This enables the delivery of advanced services in data centres, cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and systems integration, all governed by local regulatory frameworks.
In conjunction with the launch, Omantel inaugurated the new Firq Data Centre, which serves as a key component within Otech. The centre provides a secure, reliable, and scalable environment for mission-critical operations, operating continuously to ensure service robustness.
Otech now operates Oman’s most diverse cloud ecosystem and is the first platform in the Middle East to receive Amazon Web Services accreditation to provide sovereign cloud services. Its integrated platform supports workload deployment across public, hybrid, and hyperscaler cloud environments, strengthened by partnerships with Oracle, Google Cloud, Huawei, and Amazon Web Services.
Omantel highlighted that the launch addresses rapid growth in the ICT services market, spurred by government digital transformation initiatives and the expanding digital economy. It also underscores a commitment to national capability-building, specialised technology career pathways, and ongoing training, all in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
