Oman Gateway Fund Debuts on MSX: What Investors and Businesses Need to Know
Muscat Stock Exchange has entered a new chapter in market development with the listing of the Oman Gateway Fund, the Sultanate of Oman’s first exchange-traded mutual fund. This innovative fund combines the features of an open-ended fund with the flexibility of real-time trading.
Launched under the patronage of Abdullah bin Salim Al Salmi, Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Services Authority, the fund provides a diversified and professionally managed investment option for both local and international investors interested in listed equities. Units of the fund are traded during official market hours, using the same mechanisms as shares, with pricing linked to net asset value and governed by established standards.
Haitham bin Salim Al Salmi, CEO of Muscat Stock Exchange, described the listing as a strategic move to deepen market liquidity, enhance pricing efficiency, and broaden the investor base. He emphasized that introducing such instruments strengthens the exchange’s competitiveness and solidifies its role within Oman’s national financial system.
The Oman Gateway Fund is owned and managed by United Securities. Its initial public offering garnered subscriptions exceeding RO 26.5 million, marking the largest capital raise for a mutual fund in Oman’s history. Mustafa Ahmed Salman, CEO of United Securities, stated that the strong institutional and retail investor response highlights growing confidence in the capital market’s transparency and depth.
The Muscat Stock Exchange has experienced sustained growth in trading values and volumes over the past year, supported by improved governance and active market-making. Ongoing reforms and enhanced liquidity are expected to boost prospects for inclusion in emerging market indices, potentially attracting new capital inflows.
