Consumer Watchdog Issues Warning on Unsafe Battery Chargers: Implications for Business Safety Standards in Oman

MUSCAT: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has issued a formal warning regarding certain portable wireless battery chargers that do not meet approved safety standards. The use of these chargers may pose significant health and safety risks to users.

The warning specifically pertains to two brands: “Belkin XCITE” and “Baseus.” The CPA highlighted concerns about potential overheating of these batteries, which could lead to fires or other safety incidents.

This alert is part of the CPA’s ongoing initiative to protect consumers from products that could endanger public safety. The Authority has reaffirmed that inspection teams are actively monitoring local markets and e-commerce platforms to ensure compliance with established safety and quality standards. Consumers are advised to exercise caution when purchasing electronic devices online and to verify that these products meet approved safety criteria.

Both Belkin and Baseus have previously initiated voluntary international recalls for some of their portable charging devices in collaboration with global safety regulators due to identified risks related to overheating and electrical faults.

The CPA remains dedicated to ensuring a safe consumer environment throughout the Sultanate of Oman by implementing proactive market surveillance, conducting quality inspections, and running educational campaigns to inform consumers about safe purchasing practices and responsible use of products.
