IGC Approves BP Ghazeer Pipeline Transfer: Implications for Investment Opportunities in Oman’s Energy Sector
MUSCAT: The Integrated Gas Company (IGC) has approved the transfer of the BP Block 61 Ghazeer Gas Export Pipeline (Phase 2) to OQ Gas Networks (OQGN). This decision follows a thorough technical and commercial review of the proposal submitted by OQGN.
As Oman’s official gas aggregator and shipper for the national gas pipeline network, IGC is tasked with assessing and endorsing asset transfers related to the country’s gas infrastructure. In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF), IGC confirmed that this transaction complies with the established regulatory framework. The asset has been valued at RO 39.991 million, consistent with the guidelines outlined in the regulated system.
IGC emphasized that this approval aligns with its essential mandate to ensure transparent governance, equitable valuation, and the long-term sustainability of Oman’s gas infrastructure. The decision further highlights the company’s dedication to maintaining coherence within the national gas transmission network, while supporting Oman’s broader energy strategy in adherence to regulatory standards.
The transfer of the strategic 65-kilometre pipeline is anticipated to strengthen the national gas grid, enhance operational efficiency, and improve the reliability and connectivity of Oman’s energy system.
A spokesperson for IGC stated that the approval reinforces the company’s ongoing role in ensuring sound valuation, regulatory compliance, and operational coordination, fulfilling its responsibilities as the sole gas aggregator and shipper of Oman’s natural gas pipeline infrastructure.
