Investing in Muttrah Teleferik: Unlocking New Opportunities for Tourism Development in Oman
MUSCAT, DEC 15 – The Muttrah Teleferik cable car project, set to launch in 2026, is creating new investment opportunities for complementary public amenities that aim to transform the area into a fully integrated tourism destination.
The project operator is seeking investors to develop a variety of facilities, including seaside cafés, panoramic restaurants, retail shops featuring Omani crafts, art spaces, family-friendly cafés, outdoor retail areas, viewing decks, and a museum. Additionally, essential services such as telecommunications and banking will be included. These features are designed to enhance the visitor experience and boost the project’s tourism and commercial value.
The Muttrah Teleferik, spearheaded by Sabeen Investments, will serve as a major new tourism and urban experience in the historic Muttrah area. The cable car system will connect the Muttrah Corniche with the scenic hills overlooking the bay, creating a landmark attraction.
Spanning approximately three kilometers, the cable car route will include three main stations, each serving as both a transportation hub and a platform for lifestyle amenities. The primary station, located near the Corniche and fish market, will provide easy access for visitors. The Mountain Top (Rayah Peak) Station, the largest of the three, will offer stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, harbor, and sea, along with leisure facilities, dining options, and an open-air theater. The final stop, Hay Al Ward (Flower Park) Station, will overlook the waterfront and feature commercial spaces, family-friendly areas, and public attractions such as a dancing fountain.
This project is set to enhance Muscat’s tourism appeal by providing a unique aerial perspective of one of Oman’s most beloved coastal districts. Once completed, it is expected to rank among the longest cable car systems in the Middle East and become a notable landmark for the capital. Beyond transportation, the stations will be vibrant cultural and leisure hubs, incorporating retail, dining, entertainment, and event spaces.
Construction is progressing steadily, with significant equipment already installed. The project is on track for completion in the first quarter of 2026, with operations anticipated to begin shortly afterwards.
As part of broader initiatives to establish Muttrah as a premier tourism destination, the teleferik is expected to complement existing heritage attractions such as Muttrah Souq and Muttrah Fort, stimulating economic activity and creating new opportunities in retail, food and beverage, and entertainment sectors.
