MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has initiated the National Programme to Enhance the Efficiency of the Construction Sector. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen workforce capabilities, improve project quality, and promote professional practices that align with international standards.
The programme focuses on practical, hands-on training through specialized modules designed to address real challenges faced by the industry while enhancing the technical and administrative skills of contractors and workers. Training sessions are being held in various wilayats, including Muscat, Nizwa, and Suhar, along with options for remote participation to broaden access for professionals throughout Oman. The programme, overseen by the ministry, is implemented in collaboration with the e-Building platform and includes participation from companies and suppliers specializing in construction materials and services. This collaboration facilitates the transfer of practical knowledge and the sharing of best practices within the industry.
Shahswar al Balushi, Adviser to the Minister for Construction and Engineering Consulting, emphasized that this initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to bolster the efficiency and competitiveness of the construction sector. He stated that specialized technical training programmes are designed to empower Omani contractors, enhance their institutional capabilities, and improve the sustainability and growth potential of their businesses. Additionally, these programmes aim to reduce hidden building defects and elevate the quality of completed projects.
Hussein bin Mashhour al Asfoor, Chief Executive Officer of the e-Building platform, highlighted that the programme intends to incorporate digital technologies into training processes to enhance workforce skills and uphold professional standards. He noted that applied training will target knowledge gaps in contracting companies, enabling them to improve both their technical and administrative capabilities, which in turn will lead to better project outcomes and strengthened execution standards.
