First Commercial Sesame Cultivation Project in Oman: Key Opportunities for Investors and Entrepreneurs

Muscat: Oman has launched its inaugural commercial sesame cultivation project in the Dhofar Governorate, representing a crucial advancement in the nation’s efforts to bolster food security.

This initiative is a collaboration between Sifco, the Salalah Free Zone, and the Omani Agricultural Association in Dhofar, encompassing an area of 600 acres in Al-Najd. Approximately 35 farmers are involved in this project, operating under a contract farming model, with an anticipated yield of 300 tonnes of sesame seeds.

The project aims to empower farmers by establishing direct connections with factories and industry, facilitating the production of value-added items such as tahini and edible oils. Additionally, it seeks to create new market opportunities for investors, thereby enhancing the country’s food security strategy.

By linking agriculture with industry, the sesame project is set to transform small seeds into significant commodities, reinforcing Oman’s ability to meet domestic demands while positioning Dhofar as a center for agricultural innovation.
