OQAE Launches First Large-Scale SuperESCO Project in Oman: How It Affects Energy Savings and Business Opportunities
MUSCAT: On Monday, October 13, 2025, OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), a subsidiary of OQ, Oman’s global energy investment group, announced the launch of the country’s first large-scale SuperESCO project.
Utilizing the SuperESCO model, OQAE will implement extensive energy efficiency enhancements at the OQ Refineries & Petroleum Industries (OQRPI) facilities. These upgrades will include equipment replacement, system optimization, and operational improvements. The initiative is projected to yield annual savings of 22.5 GWh while reducing CO₂ emissions by 9.4 kilotonnes. This effort aligns with Oman’s objectives to achieve decarbonization and sustainability under the vision of Net Zero 2050, delivering long-term value through improved operational costs and asset performance.
Ghalib al Maamari, Acting CEO of OQAE, remarked, “This project is a turning point for energy efficiency in Oman. By introducing a scalable SuperESCO model that funds itself through guaranteed performance, we are establishing a national benchmark for industrial decarbonization. Our in-house expertise will create a foundation for a national pipeline of similar initiatives, positioning Oman as a regional leader in sustainable energy.”
As the sole developer, investor, and project manager, OQAE will oversee the entire project lifecycle—from feasibility studies and tendering to contractor selection, implementation, and verification. This comprehensive approach ensures best-in-class technical delivery and guaranteed performance outcomes. Such a model allows industrial entities to maximize their energy efficiency without the need for upfront capital investment, while securing verified financial and environmental benefits.
The project is expected to be completed within twelve months of implementation, followed by a performance verification phase. Through these initiatives, OQAE aims to further strengthen Oman’s energy future and accelerate the nation’s shift towards a sustainable, competitive low-carbon economy.
