Mazaya Initiative Launched to Boost Governorate-Led Growth: What It Means for Investors and Businesses in Oman
NIZWA: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has launched the “Mazaya” initiative, a nationwide programme designed to bolster economic diversification and enhance the investment climate across all governorates of Oman.
The initiative was unveiled in the Wilayat of Nizwa under the patronage of Shaikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah. As part of the programme, a series of discussion sessions will be held in each governorate to review current investment incentives, propose new development incentives tailored to the unique strengths of each region, and support efforts to improve competitiveness at both local and national levels.
Mazaya emerged from OCCI’s strategic development workshop aimed at advancing the private sector. The initiative is founded on three main pillars: improving the business environment, expanding economic diversification, and strengthening partnerships for economic development at the governorate level.
Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI’s Board of Directors, emphasized that the initiative embodies strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the distinct advantages of each governorate as a key element of Oman’s decentralisation strategy, which aligns with Oman Vision 2040 by placing governorates at the centre of development and prioritising a diversified economy.
Al Rawas added that OCCI is dedicated to converting local potential into tangible investment opportunities driven by the private sector, supported by enabling policies and effective partnerships. He noted that the Chamber has collaborated closely with stakeholders to develop economic projects based on opportunity analyses within each governorate, ensuring these projects align with national economic goals while enhancing local content and value addition.
Zakaria bin Abdullah al Saadi, CEO of OCCI, stated that the executive management has operationalized the Board’s vision into clear and actionable plans through defined strategic directions. He noted that Mazaya addresses the need for updated legislation and incentive frameworks that increase the competitiveness of Oman’s economy and broaden the scope of economic diversification, fostering sustainable business growth across all governorates.
The launch event featured a discussion session detailing the initiative’s objectives, implementation strategies, and its role in offering competitive advantages and high-quality services to business owners. — ONA
