MOCIIP Deletes Over 42,000 Inactive CRs: What This Means for Business Compliance and Opportunities in Oman
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) in Oman has executed the largest Regulatory Framework initiative since the establishment of the Commercial Register (CR) by removing over 42,000 inactive and expired commercial registrations through four consecutive phases.
This process was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Commercial Registration Law and its Executive Regulations, in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure legislative compliance and safeguard the rights of registration owners.
Nasra bint Sultan Al Habsiya, Director General of Commerce at MOCIIP, explained that the deletion of inactive commercial records followed a thorough review to confirm that these records had no outstanding obligations with the Tax Authority, Ministry of Labor, or the Royal Oman Police. Furthermore, lists of the records scheduled for deletion were published for 30 days to comply with legal requirements.
The first phase involved deleting 3,410 records from the period 1970 to 1999. The second phase saw the removal of 35,000 records from 2000 to 2020. The third phase covered 1,116 commercial registrations, and the fourth phase, conducted from March to November 2025, included the deletion of 2,638 records.
This significant effort reflects MOCIIP’s commitment to maintaining an up-to-date and accurate commercial registry in the Sultanate.
