MUSCAT: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM) has launched the Energy Efficiency Excellence Award as part of its efforts to promote innovation and improve energy-use efficiency in both the public and private sectors. This initiative supports Oman’s transition towards environmental and economic sustainability, aligning with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The award aims to motivate government and private entities to implement innovative and effective energy efficiency solutions. Eligible government participants include ministries, authorities, institutions, municipalities, public hospitals, and government universities. Private sector participants encompass universities, companies, and establishments operating across industrial, commercial, residential, and service sectors.
The award is divided into two primary categories: Best Project in the Government Sector and Best Project in the Private Sector, recognizing initiatives that demonstrate excellence and innovation in energy efficiency.
To qualify, projects must align with the sustainable development priorities of Oman Vision 2040 and contribute to achieving net-zero emissions. Additionally, projects need to be fully implemented in prior years or have been operational for at least six months with verified actual performance data.
Submissions undergo a thorough technical and environmental evaluation. Key assessment criteria include the efficiency and sustainability of implemented solutions such as air-conditioning systems, building thermal insulation, energy-efficient lighting, and environmentally friendly appliances. The evaluation also considers the use of renewable energy sources, smart control systems, water efficiency measures, and compliance with local or international environmental certifications and accreditations.
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals encourages all eligible entities to participate, emphasizing that the award provides a national platform to foster innovation in energy efficiency and strengthen collaborative efforts across sectors for a sustainable future.
