MSX Achieves Full ESG Compliance: What This Means for Investors and Businesses in Oman
Muscat Stock Exchange Achieves Full ESG Compliance for Listed Companies in 2025
MUSCAT, Dec 14 — The Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) has announced that all companies listed on its Main and Parallel markets have fully complied with the mandatory Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and sustainability disclosure requirements for 2025.
This milestone represents a significant advancement in the development of Oman’s capital market, showcasing increasing alignment with the expectations of both local and international institutional investors. It also highlights the readiness of listed companies to adopt global best practices in ESG reporting, thereby enhancing transparency, corporate governance, and investor confidence.
MSX introduced ESG standards to boost the competitiveness of Oman’s capital market and attract foreign investment. These efforts support key national goals, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and driving economic diversification in line with Oman Vision 2040.
This accomplishment follows a multi-year transformation initiated in 2022, when MSX collaborated with GCC exchanges to unify sustainability and governance indicators. In 2023, MSX released Oman’s first ESG reporting guide and launched a digital disclosure platform to facilitate structured and consistent reporting.
From 2023 to 2024, ESG reporting was voluntary, allowing companies time to build their internal ESG capabilities. Participation steadily increased during this period, reflecting growing awareness ahead of the mandatory reporting requirements introduced in 2025.
With full compliance now attained, MSX stands as a forward-looking, sustainability-aligned marketplace. It is well-positioned to support new financial instruments, broaden its investor base, and attract global capital focused on responsible investment.
