MUSCAT: Oman Air, the national airline of the Sultanate of Oman, has launched its inaugural flight to Copenhagen, Denmark, with a stopover in Baghdad, Iraq, as part of its ongoing strategy to expand its international network.
This new route, operated under fifth freedom rights, marks Oman Air’s first direct services to both Iraq and Denmark. It underscores the airline’s dedication to improving global connectivity and strengthening ties between the Middle East and Europe.
Engineer Hamood al Alawi, Deputy CEO of Oman Air, emphasized that the new service aims to connect communities, foster cultural exchange, and provide passengers with a smooth and comfortable travel experience to new destinations. He highlighted the route’s role in supporting diplomatic and economic relations between Oman, Iraq, and Europe, while also promoting regional cooperation and development.
Al Alawi added that this route addresses increasing demand for travel between the region and Northern Europe, enhances access to Scandinavia via Muscat, and boosts trade and tourism through the Baghdad stopover. This development reinforces Oman Air’s commitment to advancing the Sultanate’s international partnerships.
To mark the launch, a welcome ceremony was held at Baghdad International Airport, attended by Shaikh Mahmoud bin Muhanna al Kharousi, Charge d’Affaires of Oman’s Embassy in Iraq; Razzaq Muhaibis, Iraq’s Minister of Transport; Atwan al Atwani, Governor of Baghdad Governorate; Captain Harith al Obaidi, Director of Baghdad International Airport; Dr Hussain al Zubaidi, Director of the Iraqi Airports Administration; Oman Air Deputy CEO Eng. Hamood al Alawi; officials from Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority; and senior representatives from both nations. A smaller reception was also organized upon the flight’s arrival at Copenhagen Airport.
