Oman Cables Launches Sustainability Academy: Transforming Business Practices for a Greener Future in Oman

Under the patronage of Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, Oman Cables Industry (SAOG) officially launched the Global Sustainability Academy—a pioneering initiative dedicated to advancing sustainability, innovation, and knowledge sharing within Oman and the wider region.

As the first initiative of its kind in the Sultanate, the Academy embodies Oman Cables’ commitment to embedding sustainability throughout its operations. It serves as a central hub for over 30,000 employees worldwide, as well as stakeholders, partners, and local communities, facilitating the exchange of ideas, enhancement of expertise, and implementation of practical solutions supporting Oman’s energy transition and economic diversification strategies.

Located at Al Rusayl Industrial City in Muscat, the headquarters of Oman Cables Industry and Prysmian Middle East, Russia, and Türkiye, the Academy integrates both on-site and digital learning to boost sustainability competencies across the workforce. Its facilities include Oman’s first solar flower, solar carports, and wind turbines—all constructed from recycled and circular materials—creating hands-on environments that promote climate action, efficient resource use, and technological innovation.

Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, praised the launch as a model of public-private collaboration. He stated, “The Global Sustainability Academy exemplifies a partnership that transforms national vision into tangible progress. By embedding sustainability and innovation within industry, it fortifies the foundation of Oman’s knowledge-based economy and empowers Omani talent to lead the transition towards a competitive, low-carbon future.”

Cinzia Farisè, Chairman of Oman Cables Industry, described the Academy as a pivotal milestone in the company’s sustainability journey. She commented, “The establishment of the Global Sustainability Academy is a significant step forward, positioning Oman Cables as a provider of sustainable solutions driving the energy transition, encouraging inclusion, and contributing to Oman’s industrial and human capacity development. It links our global expertise with local talent to create lasting value for Oman’s industrial advancement and move towards a sustainable economy.”

Coinciding with the inauguration and Omani Youth Day, Oman Cables also announced the JOLT initiative—Junior Omani Leaders of Tomorrow—an international leadership and development programme. Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and supported by Prysmian, Sultan Qaboos University, and Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Management, JOLT aims to prepare young Omani engineers for leadership roles in advanced manufacturing and clean energy sectors. Participants will benefit from global training and assignments within Prysmian’s international network, nurturing a new generation of professionals equipped to guide Oman’s industrial growth.

As part of the Prysmian Group’s Global Sustainability Academy network, the Oman facility represents a strategic milestone, connecting the Sultanate’s industry to a global platform of knowledge, skills, and innovation. This collaboration imports worldwide expertise into local practice, accelerating Oman’s sustainability transition and directly supporting Oman Vision 2040 and the Net Zero 2050 goals.
