Oman’s First Glamping Project Contract Awarded: What This Means for Investors and Entrepreneurs in the Tourism Sector
Muscat Municipality has officially awarded and begun work on the Hawiyat Najm Glamping Project in Wilayat Qurayyat. Spanning nearly 500,000 square meters, this development is poised to become Oman’s and the region’s first fully integrated eco-tourism destination, blending adventure, leisure, and environmental sustainability.
Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, emphasized that the project aligns with the Governorate’s commitment to delivering pioneering initiatives that offer a natural retreat for both residents and tourists. He stated, “The project will accommodate more visitors and provide a comprehensive experience adhering to the highest environmental and social sustainability standards.”
The initiative corresponds with Oman Vision 2040 and the Governorate Development Programme, aiming to preserve the area’s unique geological features while introducing a modern tourism framework. The masterplan divides the site into three key zones: a public park encircling the signature sinkhole with landscaped pathways and green spaces; a camping and caravan area offering diverse outdoor accommodation options; and a luxury glamping zone featuring tents and caravans, some with views of the Sea of Oman.
Key attractions will include a panoramic bridge over the sinkhole, an elevator to enhance accessibility, a zipline, walking and cycling trails, children’s play areas, food trucks, retail outlets, and a multipurpose theater and exhibition hall.
The project has been developed with significant contributions from Omani talents such as Baida Al-Zadjali, Meezah Engineering, and the municipal planning teams, showcasing the creativity and innovation of Omani youth. Upon completion, it will be managed by young Omani professionals and entrepreneurs specializing in adventure and eco-tourism.
Sustainability is central to the project, which will feature solar-powered facilities, waste recycling systems, and environmentally friendly construction techniques. It is expected to generate over 300 jobs, support small and medium enterprises, and attract more than 5,000 visitors daily during peak times, establishing Qurayyat as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers.
