Oman to Host Middle East LPG Summit and Expo 2025: Key Opportunities for Investors and Business Growth in the Region

MUSCAT: The Middle East LPG Summit and Exhibition 2025 commenced yesterday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. Organised by the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA) in collaboration with the Ministry, the two-day event focuses on the future of the LPG industry and aims to enhance international cooperation through presentations on innovative technologies, advanced safety systems, digital transformation, and women’s empowerment in the energy sector.

Bringing together over 2,000 experts from 30 countries, the summit features 80 international companies showcasing the latest developments in LPG technology, supply chain solutions, and energy efficiency. A highlight of the event was the launch of the first Middle East chapter of the Women in LPG Network (WINLPG), underscoring Oman’s commitment to promoting women’s roles and leadership in industrial and energy sectors.

Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to driving Oman’s economic transformation. He emphasized that Industrial Strategy 2040 prioritizes expanding the industrial sector and increasing its GDP contribution. He described LPG as a strategic asset pivotal to economic diversification and value-added industries, while highlighting Oman’s investments in renewable energy, green hydrogen, cutting-edge technology, and digital transformation as essential to sustainable growth.

James Rockall, CEO and Managing Director of the WLGA, praised Oman’s established presence in global energy markets, describing it as “one of the region’s most established energy exporters, with strong connections across the Gulf and beyond.” He noted that the Sultanate’s openness to international cooperation continues to attract global partnerships. Rockall highlighted that alignment with Oman Vision 2040 offers significant opportunities for LPG to support the country’s economic and energy goals, further cementing Oman’s role as an emerging hub in the evolving energy landscape.

Dr Rachid Majjad, CEO of the National Gas Company, during his presentation, stressed the need to progressively reduce subsidies on industrial LPG consumption. He outlined a 10-year phased plan that could generate over RO 113 million in additional government revenue, enhancing fiscal stability and expanding budget capacity for renewable energy, industrial efficiency, and innovation initiatives. This plan supports Oman Vision 2040 and macroeconomic stability, with a portion of the recovered subsidies to be reinvested to assist SMEs during the transition. Under this proposal, government subsidy coverage would decrease from 76% in the first year to 31% by the tenth year.

The summit programme included discussions on autogas, industrial safety, women’s empowerment, and international knowledge exchange, along with bilateral meetings to explore collaboration and investment opportunities between government officials and corporate representatives. The event concluded with widespread recognition of Oman’s leadership in fostering global dialogue on the future of energy, reinforcing the region’s expanding role in shaping a safer, more sustainable, and innovation-focused energy ecosystem.
