Pact for Manufacturing Mobile Solar Power Plants in Oman: What It Means for Investors and Entrepreneurs

MUSCAT: AB Energy, a pioneering clean energy technology firm based in Oman, has formalised a strategic partnership with China’s Wuxi Longmax Technology to advance the development, manufacturing, and assembly of mobile solar power plants within the Sultanate.

Founded in 2024 by notable Omani tech entrepreneur Abdullah al Saidi—who also co-founded InnoTech and Nafath Renewable Energy—AB Energy specialises in renewable energy solutions that incorporate advanced thermal energy storage, mobile solar systems, and microgrids.

Wuxi Longmax, headquartered in Jiangsu, China, is internationally acclaimed for its mobile, containerised solar power solutions and off-grid energy technologies designed for rapid deployment in remote areas. The company operates in over 50 countries and maintains a manufacturing facility in Malaysia.

AB Energy’s CEO, Abdullah al Saidi, emphasised that the partnership “aims to develop, assemble and deploy Mobile Solar Container systems in Oman and key regional markets including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Yemen, and Rwanda.” He also highlighted plans for establishing a local assembly line in Oman during subsequent phases, which will boost in-country value (ICV) and facilitate the transfer of modern technologies and expertise to the Omani market.

This initiative marks the first of its kind in Oman, focusing on the local manufacturing and assembly of mobile solar power plants. Typically housed within standard shipping containers, these “solar-in-a-box” systems offer efficient, flexible solutions for delivering clean energy to remote or temporary sites. Featuring deployable solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays mounted on foldable or retractable frames for rapid setup, the systems incorporate integrated energy storage to ensure continuous power supply even in low sunlight conditions, enabling 24/7 operation.

Al Saidi described the venture as “a qualitative step in accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions, providing innovative alternatives for industrial and remote areas, and supporting national and regional efforts toward a more sustainable energy future.”

Earlier this year, AB Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with OQGN, the majority state-owned operator of Oman’s gas transportation network, to develop zero-emission thermal heating solutions based on sand-based energy storage technologies. This collaboration aims to explore sustainable solutions that enhance energy efficiency in processing operations.

This strategic partnership between AB Energy and Wuxi Longmax positions Oman as a regional hub for innovative mobile solar power solutions, tapping into growing demand for flexible, off-grid clean energy in remote and industrial sites. Businesses should explore opportunities in renewable technology integration and local assembly, while investors must consider the long-term value of Oman’s bolstered in-country value (ICV) and technology transfer, which could catalyze further growth in clean energy sectors across the Gulf and East Africa.
