Startup Revolutionizes Sustainable Construction in Oman: What It Means for Investors and Entrepreneurs

MUSCAT, DEC 17 – Omani startup EnviBrick unveiled a groundbreaking local construction innovation at the Green Build Oman 2025 event, presenting its engineered bricks as an effective solution to a major national challenge: high energy consumption in buildings.

Mohamed Alderiy, Founder of EnviBrick, emphasized the role of material science and homegrown innovation in advancing Oman’s sustainability and energy efficiency objectives. He stated that the company is “not just producing bricks, but creating a new construction technology” tailored specifically for the region’s climatic conditions.

Highlighting market trends, Alderiy referenced data from Mordor Intelligence, which projects the GCC green building market to grow from $35.8 billion in 2024 to approximately $66.8 billion by 2029, with an annual growth rate nearing 11 percent. This rapid market expansion presents a significant opportunity for locally developed materials that can reduce emissions while remaining competitively priced.

EnviBrick’s core innovation targets the energy consumption linked to building temperature control. In Oman, over 60% of building energy use is attributed to air conditioning, with around 65% of that demand resulting from heat transfer through building structures. EnviBrick’s engineered bricks are designed to minimize heat transfer while maintaining a lightweight build, thereby directly reducing cooling requirements and associated energy costs.

The technical specifications shared at the event underscored the bricks’ robust performance. Made from recycled materials, EnviBrick blocks boast eco-friendly characteristics. Load-bearing blocks achieve a compressive strength of 36 MPa, and non-load-bearing blocks reach 16 MPa—values that surpass many competing products on the market. In addition to structural strength, the bricks offer superior thermal and sound insulation, combining durability with sustainability.

Alderiy also highlighted the wider economic and environmental benefits of the product. The reduction in cooling demand lowers carbon emissions over a building’s lifespan, while enhanced energy efficiency can increase property value. He stressed that the integration of sustainability, high performance, and support for the local economy is a core tenet of the EnviBrick concept.

Originally developed as a university-led initiative, EnviBrick is now transitioning towards commercial readiness and market viability. By merging advanced engineering with Oman’s climatic needs and the region’s rapidly growing green construction sector, EnviBrick establishes itself as a credible Omani contributor to the future of sustainable building in the Gulf.
