Oman Air’s Threefold Surge in Point-to-Point Traffic: What It Means for Investors and Business Growth in Oman

24 July 2025, Muscat: Oman Air, the national carrier, has reached a significant milestone by nearly tripling its point-to-point passenger numbers, increasing from 75,000 in June 2024 to 200,000 in June 2025. Point-to-point traffic, which refers to passengers flying directly into Oman rather than connecting onwards, now constitutes 58% of the airline’s total flight loads—almost double the proportion seen by any other GCC airline. This achievement represents a major step forward in Oman Air’s strategy to boost inbound tourism and support the country’s economic objectives, according to an official press statement.

Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer of Oman Air, explained, “A core pillar of our strategy is to increase point-to-point traffic, not merely by adding more flights, but by ensuring each flight brings more visitors directly to Oman. This growth is the result of meticulous route planning, targeted marketing, and a network strategy focused on stable demand rather than aspiration. Our approach aligns with national tourism goals and enhances the airline’s revenue, allowing us to sustainably open new routes. We remain committed to making travel to Oman both accessible and appealing, fulfilling our promise to be a key driver of Oman’s tourism expansion.”

Oman Air is continuing to invest in expanding its route network, modernising its fleet, and enhancing service quality to maintain its regional leadership and provide an exceptional travel experience. Recent network enhancements include the launch of a direct route to Amsterdam, granting access to the valuable Benelux market, and the reintroduction of double daily flights to London starting in October 2025. Additionally, as the newest member of the oneworld Alliance, Oman Air offers seamless connectivity between Oman and over 700 destinations worldwide, including new markets such as Japan, Australia, and North America.

With Oman’s ongoing investments in tourism infrastructure, Oman Air’s focused efforts are playing a vital role in attracting more visitors, increasing tourism revenue, and enhancing the nation’s profile on the global stage.
