Omani-Spanish Partnership to Manufacture Wind Towers Locally: Boosting Oman’s Renewable Energy Industry and Investment Opportunities
MUSCAT: Ophiolite Oman LLC, a subsidiary of the prominent Omani business group A Mohamed & Ahmed Al Khonji Group Co, has signed a strategic agreement with Spain’s Windtechnic Engineering to collaborate on the manufacturing and supply of wind towers for renewable energy projects in Oman.
This partnership supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the national strategy to diversify energy sources by prioritising sustainable and renewable solutions. It combines Ophiolite Oman’s expertise in engineering and precast concrete with Windtechnic’s global experience in designing and constructing wind towers. Together, they aim to advance the country’s renewable energy infrastructure and facilitate the transition to clean energy.
Tariq bin Najeeb al Khonji, Managing Director of Ophiolite Oman, highlighted that the agreement underscores the company’s dedication to Oman’s renewable energy ambitions. He described the project as a strategic move to localise advanced wind tower manufacturing technologies in line with Oman Vision 2040 targets.
Al Khonji further explained that the partnership will boost local industry content by transferring knowledge and cutting-edge technologies to the Omani market, while nurturing national talent in wind tower production and related industrial activities. The initiative is expected to generate direct employment opportunities for Omani youth in engineering, manufacturing, and operations, enhancing the nation’s capacity to manage sophisticated industrial projects.

Windtechnic, based in San Sebastián, Spain, is a global leader in the engineering and design of hybrid concrete wind towers for wind energy projects. Álvaro Landera, General Manager of Windtechnic Engineering, stated that this cooperation marks a significant step toward localising clean energy solutions in Oman. He noted that the project presents new opportunities for regional collaboration in wind tower manufacturing and the development of local technical skills in accordance with the highest global standards.
The project will progress through industrial phases including design, preparation, and establishment of production lines, with operations slated to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
