Omantel Launches O Tech: What This Means for Business Growth and Digital Transformation in Oman
MUSCAT – Omantel has officially launched Otech, a new platform positioned as a future-focused technology provider and a crucial driver of Oman’s digital transformation. The announcement also included the unveiling of strategic partnerships in hyperscale cloud services, cybersecurity, and systems integration.
The launch event took place at the Royal Opera House Muscat under the patronage of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, president of the Oman Investment Authority. It was attended by senior officials, private sector leaders, and technology experts.
Mulham bin Bashir al Jaraf, vice president of the Oman Investment Authority and chairman of Omantel’s board, highlighted that the launch marks Omantel’s transition from a traditional telecom operator to a comprehensive digital technology company. This new direction focuses on innovation and empowering the digital economy, aligning closely with Oman Vision 2040 and the 11th Five-Year Plan, especially in advancing knowledge- and technology-based sectors.
Al Jaraf emphasized that Omantel’s transformation strategy encompasses upgrading infrastructure, delivering digital solutions, fostering national talent, developing business models, enhancing cross-sector integration, and creating sustainable economic value. Central to this approach is investing in Omani talent through training and upskilling in areas such as digital solutions, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. He described Otech’s launch as a tangible step toward realizing this vision.
Alaa Al Din bin Abdullah Bait Fadhl, Omantel’s CEO and chairman of Otech, described the new platform as a transformative stride for both the company and Oman’s digital sector. He stated that Otech aims to build a unified technology ecosystem anchored in innovation, competitiveness, and economic diversification, playing a pivotal role in enabling the digital economy and supporting Oman’s goal to become a regional telecommunications and technology hub.
Maqbool bin Salim Al Wohaibi, acting CEO of Otech, noted that the integration of Oman Data Park into Otech enhances the nation’s digital infrastructure by expanding data centre operations and sovereign cloud services for government and private clients. This supports data localisation within Oman and access to advanced cloud technologies.
Otech has formed key partnerships with Oracle (delivering hyperscale cloud platforms through Oracle Alloy), PwC (providing cybersecurity solutions and local skills development), and Nagarro (focusing on systems integration for emerging technologies and sector-specific solutions). Collaborations also include Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 team for threat intelligence and incident response, and Fortinet for cloud-enabled SASE cybersecurity solutions.
Further cooperation extends to Nama Shared Services for systems integration and smart utilities solutions, as well as partnerships with Omani startups such as Orki, Decoil, and Remedy.
Otech consolidates Omantel Group’s technology assets—including Oman Data Park and Tedom—under a unified operational model to deliver advanced services in data centres, cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and systems integration, all governed by local regulations.
During the launch, Omantel also inaugurated the Firq Data Centre, which serves as a key component of Otech, offering a secure, reliable, and scalable environment for round-the-clock critical operations.
Otech now operates the most diversified cloud ecosystem in Oman and is the first in the Middle East to achieve Amazon Web Services accreditation for delivering sovereign cloud services. Its integrated platform supports workloads across public, hybrid, and hyperscale cloud environments, backed by strategic partnerships with Oracle, Google Cloud, Huawei, and Amazon Web Services.
This launch addresses the rapidly growing ICT services market driven by government digital transformation initiatives and the expanding digital economy. It aims to bolster national capability-building, establish specialized technology career pathways, and provide ongoing training aligned with Oman Vision 2040.
