Salalah’s New Iconic Coastal Destination: What It Means for Business Growth and Investment Opportunities in Oman

Construction has officially begun on a significant new tourism development along the southern coast of Dhofar, with the first phase valued at approximately RO 90 million, based on site observations and project documentation.

The project, named “Boutique Hotel Salalah and Marina,” is led by Al Wathba Hospitality and aims to transform over 2.5 million square meters of coastal land into a premium destination for tourism and leisure. A visit this week by Oman Observer confirmed that construction is underway, with early works and land preparation already visible on-site.

The development will feature a luxury beachfront hotel, an integrated marina, and essential tourism infrastructure designed to boost Salalah’s appeal throughout the year.

Renowned international firms are managing the design and engineering aspects. The architectural vision is driven by Benoy and Opini, while Tusker, known for its expertise in infrastructure and environmental planning, serves as the main engineering consultant. Marine works are being executed by MDC Dredging & Marine in partnership with Al Fairuz, according to on-site details.

Located west of central Salalah, the project supports the national strategy under Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to enhance the tourism sector’s contribution to GDP and position Dhofar as a crucial gateway for sustainable economic diversification.

Project visuals indicate a design that harmonizes with natural landscapes, featuring palm-lined promenades and luxury coastal amenities that maintain the environmental integrity of the area. Notably, the project incorporates solar-powered site lighting, emphasizing eco-friendly and modern development practices.

Industry experts highlight that this initiative could significantly diversify Dhofar’s tourism economy beyond the seasonal Khareef period, offering an upscale option for both regional and international visitors.
