SCIT Group and Omantel Partner to Boost In-Flight Connectivity: What It Means for Oman’s Aviation and Tech Investors
SCIT Group (Space Communications for Information Technology), a Saudi-based investment company advancing next-generation Air-to-Ground (A2G) inflight connectivity through its subsidiary SkyFive Arabia, has entered into an agreement with Omantel to launch A2G-based inflight connectivity (IFC) services in Oman.
Under this partnership, the two companies will jointly introduce and promote A2G inflight connectivity technology across the Sultanate. They will collaborate on developing hybrid A2G and satellite-based connectivity solutions featuring extended offshore coverage, designed to serve diverse aviation segments, including commercial airlines, private, and VVIP aircraft.
The agreement also encompasses executing and demonstrating ultra-high-throughput A2G capabilities via a jointly defined proof of concept. This will leverage Omantel’s advanced network infrastructure to highlight the full performance and potential of next-generation IFC services.
Omantel and SCIT aim to accelerate the deployment of high-performance, low-latency inflight internet throughout Oman, positioning the country as one of the region’s early adopters of advanced aviation connectivity. This collaboration further solidifies Omantel’s role as a key driver of innovation and digital transformation in the Middle East.
Eng. Aladdin Bait Fadhil, CEO of Omantel, stated: “Omantel has long been at the forefront of digital innovation, not only within Oman but across the wider region. This partnership reflects our strategic vision to expand beyond national borders and position Omantel as a regional and international leader in advanced connectivity solutions. By pioneering inflight connectivity through cutting-edge A2G and hybrid technologies, we are enabling seamless digital experiences for travellers, strengthening Oman’s role as a hub for innovation, and driving the next wave of transformation across aviation and telecommunications. Together with SCIT, we are shaping a future where connectivity knows no boundaries.”
Mohamed K. Abdelrehim, CEO of SCIT Group and SkyFive Arabia, remarked: “This collaboration with Omantel marks a significant step forward in advancing Air-to-Ground connectivity across the Gulf region. By integrating Omantel’s extensive national network with SCIT’s specialised aviation and A2G expertise, we are laying the foundation for a new era of high-speed, seamless inflight internet for passengers flying within and over Oman. Our joint efforts, including the planned demonstration of ultra-high-throughput A2G capabilities, are designed to accelerate the deployment of scalable, next-generation IFC services that support Oman’s broader digital transformation ambitions across both telecommunications and aviation sectors.”
